True Spirituality

True spirituality is not a high, not a rush, not an altered state. It has been fine to romance it for a while, but our times call for something far more real, grounded, and responsible; something radically alive and naturally integral; something that shakes us to our very core until we stop treating spiritual deepening as a something to dabble in here and there. Authentic spirituality is not some little flicker or buzz of knowingness, not a psychedelic blast-through or a mellow hanging-out on some exalted plane of consciousness, not a bubble of immunity, but a vast fire of liberation, an exquisitely fitting crucible and sanctuary, providing both heat and light for what must be done.

Spiritual Bypass

“Spiritual bypassing, a term first coined by psychologist John Welwood in 1984, is the use of spiritual practices and beliefs to avoid dealing with our painful feelings, unresolved wounds, and developmental needs… It is a spiritualized strategy not only for avoiding pain but also for legitimizing such avoidance, in ways ranging from the blatantly obvious to the extremely subtle.” (read more)

Quantum Computing

Quantum Computing Metaphor

“While regular computers store and manipulate data by representing binary ones and zeroes, a quantum computer uses quantum bits or “qubits,” exploiting quantum phenomena to represent data in more than one state at once. This makes it possible to compute information in a fundamentally different way, and to perform some parallel calculations in the same time it would take to perform a single one.” (source)

Compare to thinking logically vs thinking intuitively – similar relationship. Logical thinking requires following each possibility to its conclusion, where intuitive thinking allows thinking on multiple levels at once. Maybe this shift in computing will coincide with (or inspire) a shift in human thinking.

Tao

Not-knowing is true knowledge.
Presuming to know is a disease.
First realize that you are sick;
Then you can move toward health.

The master is her own physician.
She has healed herself of all knowing.
Thus she is truly whole.

Afternoon meanders into evening

Afternoon meanders into evening
The murmur of a family preparing dinner next door
The waves of the freeway crashing
My heart bursts with something
Not quite joy
Not quite melancholy
A twisted, mournful thing, but cherished
A disfigured bird stretching out to fly
A woman laughing through an apartment wall
The last bite of delicious cake
A child, alone in a room, listening to the rain
